SIG Sauer MCX Spear (XM5, XM7) Description

The SIG Sauer MCX Spear is the new standard service rifle for the United States Army as the XM5 and is now available in a semi-auto-only platform for civilian sales. The MCX Spear is available in 7.62x51mmNATO (.308 Winchester), 6.5 Creedmoor, and the OG XM5 caliber, SIG's new .277 SIG FURY (6.8x51mm) which is available in two forms with the first being an all-brass-case standard pressure load and a bi-metal two part case designed to handle pressures as high as 80,000 PSI.
The XM5 was adopted to give American Soldiers a rifle with greater range than the M4 Carbine while also offering greater armor defeating capabilities. The MCX Spear in a semi-automatic configuration was unveiled at SHOT Show 2023 in a semi-automatic-only setup for civilian sales with its only differences being changes to the fire control group, trigger cavity, caliber options, and the length(s) of the barrel to avoid NFA hurdles.
The XM5 was re-branded as the XM7 in order to avoid any possible trademark conflicts with Colt's M5 Carbine.
