And the extractor assembly cannot override the cartridge and jam. Instead, all Model 700 rifles feature a bolt mechanism that's stronger by design. An unbroken wall of steel encircles the bolt face, supporting the extractor and making it grip the cartridge head tighter as pressure increases. The bolt, barrel and receiver surround the cartridge with three rings of solid steel for maximum strength. The barrel contour is a special, 24" Custom Shop magnum profile that's high on accuracy and low on weight.
