Wow! This thing is BEEFY. It shoots dead on and is a fun gun to shoot. Will it hold up after 1500 rounds ? Who knows. I put 100 rounds through it the first day without one issue what-so-ever. It's heavy and could be used for a club if you run out of shells. Very good home defense shotgun for a budget price. The ghost rings are accurate but I have heard you should put lock tight on screws because they come loose after shooting. So far, after 100 rounds, still tight. BUD'S GUN SHOP ROCKS! Wanted to wait until I took this shotgun to the range before I wrote a review. Today, I put 50 rounds through the gun (25 rounds of #8 birdshot, and 25 rounds of S&B 00 buckshot). I experienced no issues, and the gun fed and cycled the ammunition beautifully. I now feel confident enough to allow this Hawk 982 to be my home defense gun. I look forward to continuing to train with it and only expect it to get better. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because it's a little rough around the edges. There are a couple of sharp spots that can lead to scratches if you're not careful. However, I would still recommend this gun without a doubt. The action is smooth and cycles reliably. I really didn`t NEED another 12 guage pump(have over 13 already and more semi-auto, double and single shots) but the gun`s great reviews and FANTASTIC BUDS price(when I purchased) I couldn`t resist. GREAT gun for the money! I HATE to give so much credit to the Chinese(Prefer to buy American of course) but they really did this one right! Feels like a heavier Remington 870, still handles and balances well, soaks up recoil with heavier 3" mag 01 buck or heavy slug loads. Great gun to keep as a "spare" in your car, truck or cabin at half the cost of a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500(own 3 of each already). This gun, dollar-for-dollar is one of the great bargains still avail. Feeds well, patterns decently at close range and can hold 2" groups(with Brenneke slugs) from a bench at 50 yards! What MORE could you ever want for a $200(Other than wishing it was made HERE in the USA!). I suggest you BUY this gun. Mine came with a recoil pad partially coming off---not enough to return, I glued it back myself. Thats the only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars. Would give 4.5 stars if an option. Nothing but praise for this shotgun. It has taken everything from mini buckshot to 3" magnum slugs and buckshot and it has not had a single failure of any kind. I recommend this shotgun. It's very sturdy feeling, which is a plus.
Finally tried this shotgun. Can’t be happier. I used 50rounds of bird shot without any issues. I then proceeded with 10 buck shots, then 5 slugs. No feeding issues. For the sake of fun, I even tried putting a chamber adapter for a 22lr. It of course was way off target. But it worked!
As usual, Bud's provides good service at competitive prices. This shotgun is great. Functions very well. Excellent ghost ring sighting. Good recoil pad. I highly recommend it.
Not bad 12 gauge. I put a cheapo flashlight and shell saddle and made her another home defense shotgun. Buds gun shop is the best!
I got my IA Hawk 982 in April. I have put plenty of shells through it without any hiccups. I make sure it stays oiled and it is kept in the closet for a home defense shotgun. You can’t beat the price.

I was recently in the market for a home defense shotgun and the price of the Hawk 12 certainly sparked my interest. My local gun range advised me away from it, saying it was just a knock-off of the Remington 870 and recommended I buy the 870 instead. But all the reviews I read said it was better than the 870 because it was more solidly made (more steel components) and came with ghost ring sights already installed. I'm glad I listened to the reviews and not the guys at the range. We've taken it to the range twice now and, despite its somewhat hefty weight, my kids (twin 15 y/o boys and a 13y/o girl) handle it with ease. I have seen some people say it is hard to cycle out of the box but I had no such issues. The Hawk 12 is one of those rare intersections of low price and quality build. You may dislike the extra weight if you plan on using the weapon for hunting but if you are in the market for a solid home defense shotgun, I highly recommend the Hawk 12. ...more
