I was surprised that this pistol was a great shooter right out of box. It a great value for the price, and I would recommend it to a friend or someone interested in a inexpensive plinking and target pistol . It has become one of my favorite guns to shoot in the short time I have owned it.
Very nice little 22LR pistol. I wanted something that could share my extra magazines on the SIG Mosquito and this fit the bill perfectly. Mags interchange and size and feel are identical as is reliability. This is absolutely a fun pistol to shoot - I run CCI mini mag 22LR without any hiccups or problems what so ever. This is a great buy and I will probably add another one to my next order. ...more
A lot has been written about the GSG Firefly. . . a lot of it negative. After reading all I could find about the pistol, it appeared that the problems stemmed from using the standard velocity recoil spring with High Velocity ammunition. I am sure the opposite would also cause issues. The issue was addressed on more current pistols by supplying two high velocity recoil springs and designating the pistol a high velocity gun. I shoot CCI Mini-Mags round nose almost exclusively so that seemed to fit my habits. I did not try hollow points of any brand.rnThe pistol comes in a well-made plastic box with a manual, two recoils springs, a lock, three front sights and only one 10 round magazine. The magazines are easily found at most online marketing places. I purchased one extra from Bud%u2019s and a two pack from evil-bay. I do think that any pistol should come with two magazines. I would forgo the plastic box for a cardboard one to get the second magazine. rnMy general first glance showed the pistol to be well made. Shooting it proved that true. It has the feel of a larger pistol with the recoil of a 22. Not a bad concept if you like shooting. Still not bad if you are just a casual plinker at the local range. The reset on the trigger seems a bit long and was the one thing that I had a little trouble adjusting to.rnSo how did it shoot? I had one FTE in the first 50 rounds. In fairness, that seemed to be a lightly loaded round. The sound was diminished and there was no felt recoil. Cycling the slide by hand solved that one inconvenience. All of the fifty rounds fell into a 4%u201D group at 50 feet: most likely because of the great sights that come with the gun and the fixed barrel. That is better than my average pistol day. Three front sights are packaged with the pistol, each a different height. The one fixed to the gun when it arrived worked just fine for me. The decocker and manual safety are easy to find and work well. The gun is just easy and fun to shoot.rnCleaning is easy. The pistol field strips in about three seconds without tools. The slide lock and take-down lever are similar in configuration to a lot of other pistols, so the disassembly learning curve is negligible. It slides back together just as fast. If you are somewhat of a fanatic about the way things appear you might want to polish the feed ramp. It does work as it comes from the factory, however. rnMy pistol is the green version, so it did cost about twenty dollars more. Even that made it an inexpensive gun at under $200. Get the black iteration if you want to go cheaper. All totaled I give it two thumbs up, one at-a-boy and a boy howdy. It is well worth the few dollars required to purchase it. rn ...more
I have owned Sig Sauer Mosquito for a few years, and did not shoot it often because it was picky on ammo, CCI Mini Mags. I started researching the ATI GSG Firefly and the barrel ramp fixes being done by disassembling the gun and placing the barrel in a vice and polishing it with a Dremel tool and jewelry polishing compound. This smoothed out the ridge between the ramp and the barrel chamber. Next I changed out the recoil spring with the second one provided that is softer and should allow a greater variety of ammo. The reassembly can be a little tricky but the gun went back together. The final preparation was to use Rem Oil and some military grade gun grease to lubricate the slide and working parts. I can say today that the gun shot Remington 22 LR Golden Bullet High Velocity Plated round nose and some Remington target 22 LR standard Velocity with no malfunctions. So this fix appears to have solve malfunctions for now. As far as comparing the two guns, the original Sig Sauer Mosquito, which is now out of production, to the ATI GSG Firefly, the finish and fit appear to be better on the original Sig Sauer model. However for the price the ATI GSG Firefly is good buy if you are willing to do the modifications mentioned above. When I first fired Firefly there were some malfunctions on ejecting and feeding ammo into the chamber when using various brands of 22 LR High Velocity ammo.. ...more
