How would you like to rate Remington 700 VTR?
First impression upon receiving the Remington 700 VTR at my FFL was that the rifle needed a good cleaning and lube. There was a brass ring mark on the bolt face (I assume from being test fired), and a very slight amount of surface rust on the edges of the lettering "Remington Arms Company" on the barrel. Both came off easily with some Rem oil and a toothbrush. Since the rust concerned me a bit, I removed the barreled action an did a more thorough cleaning and inspection of the parts hidden by the stock. I did not find any other rust and everything was as it should be. With proper lubrication the bolt cycled as you expect from a Remington 700, smooth as glass. Features included in this package that are typically extra - muzzle break, bipod, picatinny rail, and oversized bolt handle. I appreciate the rail in particular, because this is typically a hidden cost required to get he rifle operating. The triangular barrel appears to be a similar bull barrel from other Remington varmint/tactical rifles, but machined smooth on three sides to form a triangle. My impression is that this saves some weight as compared to a bull barreled 700 SPS, for example. Now the best part, the range report. I finally took it out to the range today, an man this thing is very accurate. I mounted a bore sighted an old 4-12x44 scope I had around and right from jump this rifle was grouping moa or better at 100 yds, shooting inexpensive PPU 168g match ammo. Not sure if its was the muzzle break or just that it is 308, but recoil is light, especially compared to my friend's 30-06 we also had out. Even with the oversized tactical bolt handle, there was no interference with the scope when cycling, I saw where another reviewer had an issue with the bipod quality. This was not my experience. After 40 rounds downrange it had loosened where it attaches to the sling stud, but I tightened the thumb screw and it was good to go. Overall, I highly recommend the Remington 700 VTR. As always Buds is great to deal with and the transaction was painless. ...more
First the cons: the bipod does not pivot; , the chamber had a burr, cost $50 for gunsmith to polish out; trigger would only adjust to 3.5#, replaced with Timney, now 1.75#; stock was very flimsy, replaced with B & C , the brake takes up 1.8" of barrel, so effective barrel length is 20.2" pros: the finished product handles nicely and shoots very well. Staying on a 3" gong at 300 yds. with a 10x scope. I now have approx. $1050 in the rifle, I probably will not purchase another new M700. ...more
Great rifle for hunting, durable, and well, not so lightweight, but it does what it suppose to do with good accuracy and consistant group as long as using the same ammo. Had some initial problems with a recall on the X Mark Pro Trigger from the factory. Made some inquiries and Remington took care of all the shipping cost to and from the Repair Shop. It was some hassle due to removing and replacing all the accessories but safety is a priority to Remington and its good they let us know. Bud's processing and shipping was great as usual. Overall it's a great rifle with no additional problems. ...more
This is an amazing firearm. It's perfect, especially with its triangular barrel. I bought this towards the end of February 2017 and in the description, it says "it doesn't come with a bipod or rail," BUT IT DOES, the rail and bipod were both mounted when I got it. This is the first gun I bought online ever, it was delivered to the dealer VERY quickly and was nicely packaged. Expensive as it is, it is definitely worth it. Not to mention the bolt slides so smoothly. You WON'T regret it. ...more
Remington hit the mark with the overall gun itself. .308 in this configuration has less felt recoil than my Savage Model 10 .243. The action is smooth, trigger crisp, and accuracy is as I would expect from a Model 700. The bad? A cheap flimsy bipod! C'mon Remington! A gun with a $1,000 MSRP and you slap a $5.00 bipod on it?!? It literally fell apart after the FIRST round fired... SMH... You would think Remington would put quality accessories on their prized rifle. EPIC fail Remington :( ...more
I really wanna give this product a 5 star rating but the stock leaves a little to be desired and with how dirty the gun was when I unboxed it. With that being said it's a great shooting gun at a good price point and BUDS delivered it quickly. Mounted a weaver super slam 3-15-50 and was ringing 400 yd steel in no time. With a stock upgrade this is probably a .5'' gun. ...more
