Usage
The term “Parabellum” is derived from the Latin term, “Si vis pacem, para bellum”, which means “if you want peace, prepare for war”. The 9mm Parabellum is the most common cartridge issued by militaries and law enforcement agencies globally, along with being one of the most popular self defense choices for civilians.

Luger submitted the cartridge to the US military in 1903 for testing at Springfield Armory but it was not adopted until 1985 as the official cartridge for issued sidearms when the Beretta M9 replaced the 1911. It is the official sidearm cartridge for all NATO militaries currently.
